Frequently asked questions

What are some of the use cases for PubRef?
Have you ever found yourself collecting literature and sources for something? Maybe you're working on your doctoral thesis, a project in the science, private sector, research, or administration field, or even in a team? And have you ever wanted to share the foundation of your work with others? Well, that's where PubRef comes in!
PubRef provides you with an individual subdomain that you can create and share with others.
Which import formarts are supported?
Currently you can import references from a Citavi6 archive file (.ctv6archive) or from an BibTeX export (.bib) from your reference manager.
How do I get this Citavi6 .ctv6archive archive file?
To create an archive file in Citavi6:
  1. Open the desired project.
  2. On the File menu, click "This project".
  3. Click "Archive project".

Can I edit references in PubRef?
No. PubRef is a read-only service. You can edit your references in your reference manager and re-import them.
Talk is cheap. What does it look like?
Here is a demo bibliography project:
https://foodquo.pubref.de
This was once the Citavi6 demo project DEMO Food Quality - A Global Challenge.
I want this keyword search for my project too!
Sure, just add categories/keywords to your references in your reference manager and re-import them. Even BibTeX files support categories/keywords.
How to display publication covers?
If covers are part of your Citavi6 project, use the Citavi6 archive file as import source.
But I use Google Scholar…
No problem at all! You can simply export your Google Scholar library - all articles or specific labels - into a BibTeX file and then import it into PubRef.
…and it would be nice if PubRef could import from Google Scholar directly or subscribe to my Google Scholar library…
Good idea, I've been thinking about that. Ask Google to provide an API for Google Scholar and I'll see what I can do.
But that won't win you a design contest.

I know. Was not on my list.

But at least you can choose your favorite color.
